Now streaming on UrbanFlixTV, Foster’s Law is an exciting drama that dwells on the gray areas in child protective services. Herb Kimble created the series–with Chris Stokes and Marques Houston–about Edward Foster, a caseworker whose personal and professional worlds continue to collide in troubled ways. Herb Kimble‘s writing really lets every single episode dive into the gray areas where justice and revenge are intertwined.
Played by Brian White, Edward Foster is no ordinary caseworker. Always haunted by some very disturbing occurrences in his early life, Edward is a man highly motivated to save children and will go to any length, even when it calls for crossing all the lines that separate morals from the law. This conflict in Foster forms the very core of this series and keeps the audience interested in the question of just how far one should go to see the right thing done.
Herb Kimble describes Foster’s Law as “a story about the extremes people go to in pursuit of justice.” It is a theme throughout the series as Foster continually tests the envelope of society and, at the same time, his own moral limits. Kimble tells the story with emotional depth, mind-bending conflicts, and raw honesty that make the audience want more.
Add to that the skills of LaRita Shelby, Garry Anthony Sturgis, and Lyrica Anderson, who further enrich the experience that Edward goes through. While Foster navigates the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles, the relationships he has with his friends, family, and colleagues gradually show him an alienation within his profession. It is alienation that’s definitely apparent among those closest to him because of the effect of his relentless pursuit of justice on them, further feeding an inner battle within him.
One very interesting subplot involves Foster’s conflict with Sam Brown, a drug dealer with personal stakes involved. In Episode Three, CPS takes his daughter away, and in the end, it all leads to her tragic death. The girl dies, which sets Sam on a vengeful path that elevates the emotional and moral complexities of the story to the next level. Moments like these blur the line and make the audience sympathize with both sides, making the story deeper.
Besides the thrilling action, Foster’s Law deals with the aftermath of the choices Foster makes from a psychological point of view. The supporting characters have received substantial backstory and emotional arcs that add so much depth and effect to the series. It shows the emotional aftermath of living on the edge, which separates it from other crime dramas.
Episode Six: Foster is put in prison for the murder of Sam Brown. He goes through a gruesome attack that leaves him with scars and addicted to drugs. To add to this torture, a former friend-turned-detective-betrays him in the most personal way possible, bringing full circle the horrific consequences of his actions in pursuit of justice.
With Herb Kimble’s series Foster’s Law, UrbanFlixTV proves its commitment to provocative, diverse storytelling. Foster’s Law is a perfect illustration of that mission, digging into justice, morality, and the human cost of protection.
